Squid Ink Seafood Tortellini
La Tavola is one of the more upscale restaurants in Baltimore’s Little Italy. They are known for their specials as well as their creative interior design. Their squid ink seafood tortellini is on special from time to time and it’s a must-try for lovers of black pasta.
Pappardelle with Oxtail Ragu
Pastorante has a small menu, with items ranging from basic dishes like spaghetti and meatballs to pappardelle with oxtail ragu. All pasta (with the exception of squid ink) is made in-house in this unassuming from the outside, small Harrisburg gem, located just a short walk from the Pennsylvania Capitol. Eating pappardelle with a fork and spoon can prove to be a challenge, but the flavor is delectable and this place beats any on restaurant row.
Spaghetti Neri al Granchio
This squid ink-infused spaghetti dish is made in-house at La Tavola. What makes this dish a Baltimore experience is the Maryland crab meat, which the state is famous for. It’s topped off with spinach and cherry tomatoes and served in a white wine garlic sauce.
Pumpkin Ravioli with Grilled Chicken & Walnuts
Located in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, Folino Estate is reminiscent of an Italian-style villa. Many people head to the Lehigh Valley for wine tasting, but what makes Folino unique is the cozy Italian restaurant located on the estate. While wine infused dishes like drunken pasta score points for creativity, National Pasta Day is in mid-October, so pumpkin ravioli is always a hit with locals and tourists alike.
Crab Marinara over Linguine
Sabatino’s has been a favorite of professional wrestlers since the 1980s. Pictures of famous patrons line the walls of this Little Italy institution. Ric Flair was known to send his limo to the restaurant for takeout whenever he was in Baltimore. Andre the Giant had his own table at Sabatino’s and even stormed out in anger one night when one of the owners told him that he liked “the show.” Andre went back several times before his death and even Jim Cornette thought enough of this place to do a blog post about it. The crab marinara is a seasonal special and a must-try when it’s available.
Squid Ink Fettuccine with Shrimp
At Pastorante, it’s a tossup between the squid ink fettuccine and the pappardelle with oxtail ragu. It’s worth skipping the appetizers and desserts to try both. The squid ink fettuccine with shrimp is served in a vodka sauce with diced tomatoes.
Out of all of those I would have to go with the Pumpkin Ravioli. Need to find a place that serves it around here!
You had me at squid ink! It gives the dish such an interesting and silky taste. But pumpkin too? I know maybe it’s a bit “basic” but – we’re pumpkin everything this season!
All of them look equally appealing. Would try the pumpkin variant for sure. Also had never heard of the Pasta day.
I’m not normally a fan of mixing pasta with seafood but that crab marinara over linguine looks very tasty. The meat almost looks like a brisket!
I like Squid Seafood Tortellini. Looks very attractive and delicious. Do you have the formula for it?
Wow these looks delectable. All i could think now is the perfect wine for each pasta 🙂
I am a bit of a sucker for squid ink pasta, just love that salt taste! That being said the oxtail sounds amazing. I love how versatile pasta can be.
